Malicious software is a big problem for all computer users. Even if your system is not infected, the amount of parasites out there alone should be cause for concern, and a good reason to have antivirus software and an active firewall on your computer. Acid was just one such threat.

About Acid

The Acid virus first started infecting computers in 1998. Since its inception, this parasite and its variants, acid.b and acid.a have been causing some annoyance for some computer users.

As a virus, Acid is supposed to self-replicate recursively. An infected computer system will spread the virus to other systems, and the same thing will happen in those infected systems. They work much like biological viruses in that sense. It turns out that acid, however, is an intended virus; due to bugs, they are unable to carry out the replicating virus function. Acid can still deliver a payload, however. more…

There are many types of malware, or malicious software, that can cause big problems for computer users. Trojans are just one type of malware, and there are several varieties of trojans that could potentially infect a user’s personal computer. One of these trojans is Bifrose.

About Bifrose

This trojan is particularly sneaky, making Bifrose one of the more worrisome threats out there. Capable of infecting systems running Windows 95 all the way through Windows 7, the vast majority of PCs that are running today are vulnerable to it.

Bifrose is a backdoor trojan capable of connecting to a remote IP address. This trojan allows the attacker controlling the infection to access the affected computer and carry out various actions with it. There are many actions that a cyber criminal could carry out with Bifrose, as it is highly configurable, but some common actions include screen capturing, keystroke logging, stealing details on installed programs, manage running processes, manipulating registry data or saved files, and more. more…

While many computer users think that viruses and malware are a more recent phenomenon, this is not the case, viruses and other types of malicious software have been flying around the web for some time now. One such virus is the AIDS computer virus and other viruses (or so-called viruses) that share a similar name. more…

Malicious software continues to be developed and distributed around the world. There are nefarious individuals who create these nasty programs so that they can make money in one way or another off of the poor victims whose computers they have infected.

There are many types of malware, and viruses like the ADT virus are just one subtype of this sort of parasite. Computer viruses set themselves apart from other types of malware by acting in a manner similar to biological viruses. Computer viruses infect the host computer, reproduce and then send their offspring off to infect other systems. more…

Viruses are just one of the many types of malware, or malicious software, which can end up infecting your computer system. There are also many types of viruses, and many of these types have additional variants and subtypes. This is all to say that there are a lot of virus and malware that could end up afflicting your computer system.

One type of viruses are Macro Viruses. The name may make it sound like these are big infections, but that isn’t really the case at all. Macro viruses such as Virus.MSExcel. Acute.b or Virus.MSEXcel. Acute.a  are written into the software language used by the Microsoft Office program, Excel. more…

Overview

A Trojan is a specific type of malicious software, that, rather than self-replicating itself, spreads itself by disguising itself as desirable software.  In other words, it gets the user to do all the work for it.  This makes Trojans one of the most dangerous types of malicious software being distributed online today.  The reason for this is that it is quite difficult to avoid a threat that does not even appear to be a threat at all.  This tactic allows the developer of a specific Trojan, such as the Fakealert Trojan, to infect far more people, on a much wider geographical scale.  In this specific case, the fakealert-securitytool-.bt Trojan, which is a type of virus, is most commonly installed when a user downloads what is perceived to be protection software, after being falsely alerted to a threat that does not even exist.  In other words, the hacker takes advantage of the user’s fear of being infected with a virus, in order to get them to download the Fakealert virus.  Once infected with the fakealert-securitytool.bt Trojan it can and will perform one of two tasks, possibly even both.  Either the Trojan will attempt to get you to buy a full version of protection software, or the Trojan will attempt to steal your personal information.  Neither of these are situations you want to deal with. more…

Overview

Qakbot is one of those computer viruses that can be downloaded onto a system through a number of different methods.  It is a virus that is particularly dangerous, as well, for a number of reasons that involve both the nature and purpose of the virus itself, and the processes that can lead to infection.  The most dangerous factor regarding the Qakbot virus is the fact that its purpose is to hijack the user’s personal information.  Viruses that threaten personal security are the worst kind, because once that information is obtained there is little that the user can do to prevent the information from being used.  Other malicious software, on the other hand, can simply be removed and the effects of it will generally disappear with it. more…

Overview

There are many different types of viruses that computers can become infected with, regardless of who manufactures a particular machine and which operating system it runs on.  And one of the worst things about computer viruses is that the threat can come from multiple places, depending on the specific virus, and sometimes they can even come from places that many users perceive to be safe.  Social networking sites are one of these places in which a user may become infected with a virus.  And they are particularly vulnerable when visiting such sites because hackers are so good at getting the user to install the infected software through the performance of normal activities.  One of these viruses that social networking site users want to watch out for is the Koobface virus.  Koobface, an anagram of Facebook, which should give users a hint as to where it can be picked up, has been around since 2008.  It was not until 2009, though, that the virus, Koobface, really began to wreak havoc on unsuspecting social networkers, when an even more malicious version was developed. more…

It is actually a variety of different bugs, all of which belong to the same family of code. Because of the high risk of damage the bugs carry, keeping a computer free of netsky worms is an important step that all computer owners should be prepared to take.
